Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has urged the employees of the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) not to be stubborn and to abandon the idea of a strike. He said that as a result of the steps taken by his government after coming to power, the RTC is gradually moving towards profits. At this time, he warned that if they believe the poisonous words of politically motivated people and go on strike, the RTC will suffer serious losses.
Addressing the workers at the May Day celebrations in Ravindra Bharathi, he appealed to everyone to understand that the state’s financial situation is not good at present. He cautioned the trade unions that the newly formed Congress government in Telangana will move forward with many precautions. If strikes happen again or go wrong due to other reasons, he fears that it will be difficult to revive it.
Revanth Reddy suggested that if the RTC employees have any problems, they should discuss them with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. He assured that the government is ready to resolve their problems as much as possible. He said that the responsibility of saving the company lies with the employees and they should stay away from the strike and cooperate.
Right now, he said that RTC is making profits. “This is your company. The responsibility to save it lies with the RTC workers. RTC workers do not resort to quarrels and disputes. If you have any problem, discuss it with Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. We will put all the income in your hands. You yourself suggest how we should spend it”, he said.
“I will not take a single penny home. We will spend it only for you.. Think for a moment”, Revanth said. Currently, he said that the state is receiving an income of Rs. 18,500 crore every month and that the money is being spent on loans to banks, salaries of employees, pensions. The remaining money is being spent on the welfare of the people, he added.
The Chief Minister asked the people whether they should give priority to schemes like rice, free electricity, RTC buses, Shaadi Mubarak, Kalyana Lakshmi or spend it on other luxuries? He made it clear that he is ready to run the state government as the people say.
