`Articles of Charge’ Against Former CID Chief Sunil Kumar

The government of Andhra Pradesh has issued orders registering articles of charge against former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar. The articles of charge have been registered against him for various charges, including violations of service rules as an IPS officer.

It has been clarified that he violated service rules as CID chief from October 24, 2019 to January 23, 2023 and as Director General of Fire Department from March 10, 2023 to June 20, 2024. The government has stated in the ‘articles of charge’ that Sunil Kumar has made several foreign trips without the knowledge of the government.

The articles of charge’ mention that he went to the United Arab Emirates on March 1, 2024, after obtaining permission to go to Georgia. In another charge, it is revealed that he went to Sweden on September 2, 2023 without the knowledge of the government. The third charge states that he traveled to the United States without the knowledge of the government from February 1 to 28, 2023, while he was waiting.

Another `article  charge’ states that he traveled to the UAE on December 14, 2022, while he was the CID chief. The government has registered the fifth `article of charge’ against PV Sunil Kumar for traveling to the UAE without the knowledge of the government from October 2 to 8, 2021.

The sixth article of charge states that he went to the UK on December 21, 2019, after obtaining permission to travel to the United States. The government has ordered Sunil Kumar to respond separately to each of the articles of charge registered by the government.

It has been stated that a written response to each charge must be given within 30 days. It has made it clear that if political pressure is tried during the investigation of these charges, action will be taken as per the Indian Service Rules. It may be recalled that the state government suspended him recently.

He is known for his proximity with the former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, during the previous regime and he is also main accused in the case of custodial torture against Deputy Speaker Raghuramakrishnam Raju.
