Pawan Kalyan Pledges Politics-Free Focus on Rural Development

In a candid and humble confession that’s not very common in politics, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan accepted that he does not have extensive administrative experience. But he assured that his will to infuse good change into rural Andhra Pradesh never falters.

Addressing a government function organised in Mangalagiri on the National Panchayati Raj Day, Pawan stated, “Though I do not have decades of governance experience, my heart belongs to the villages. I am working day and night for their upliftment.”

His honest words struck a chord with many, particularly in a period when politicians tend to avoid admitting mistakes. Pawan Kalyan’s honesty was greatly appreciated, and his message was straightforward — genuine change is derived from commitment, not experience.

After taking oath as Deputy Chief Minister in the N. Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP-Jana Sena-BJP coalition government, Pawan Kalyan took significant portfolios: Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Forests, Environment, and Science and Technology. He said he had consciously chosen departments that directly contribute to grassroots development, with an eye on his long-standing interest in village development.

“I have always been emotionally attached to village life. Although I am not living in a village now, I have selected this department because I really want to make a difference where it will count the most,” he said.

The political-turned-actor clarified that political loyalty will not affect development work. “Even in YSRCP sarpanche-governed villages, we are seeing balanced development,” he asserted. He noted that the Panchayati Raj system should be free from political influence and run separately.

Referring to the efforts of the government, Pawan disclosed that villages all over the state are being provided with ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 depending on size and requirement, particularly on national festivals such as Independence Day and Republic Day.

Taking a firm stand against corruption and internal lobbying, Pawan declared, “Though I’m new to governance, I’ve made sure that no lobbying or favoritism takes place in my departments. Officers are following my directions strictly. If anyone crosses the line, they will face immediate consequences.”
