Although working with a master director like S.S. Rajamouli has its challenges, and while Rajamouli is a known perfectionist and storyteller to his core – he makes sure that every frame produced is deliberate and artistic. This means that his films are not just box office hits, they are films that resonate with audiences globally. Rajamouli’s latest blockbuster, RRR, broke box office records and gave a voice to the millions throughout the world.
In the wake of the sensational success of RRR, the producers released a behind-the-scenes documentary named “RRR: Behind and Beyond”. The documentary provided audiences with a closer glimpse of the film-making process and was well-received by viewers. Given RRR’s huge popularity in Japan, the documentary is now scheduled for a special release there as well.
As part of the promotional tour, Rajamouli traveled to Japan and met with the local media. At the interaction, he looked back at some of the best moments from the shooting of RRR. One of the highlights was when he got emotional talking about Jr. NTR and his heart-wrenching performance in the emotional song “Komuram Bheemudo.”
Sharing his thoughts, Rajamouli said:
“Filming Komuram Bheemudo was truly emotional. Jr. NTR is a phenomenal performer. For that sequence, it wasn’t just his face—every part of his body was acting. All I had to do was focus the camera on him and play the music. The magic you see on screen is entirely his.”
He also acknowledged the choreographer’s efforts to craft each movement and facial expression, in order to provide depth and emotion in the sequence. According to Rajamouli, the right combination of choreography direction and NTR’s brilliant performance made the song special.
Rajamouli did not hold back on sharing the love he has for his colleague NTR. He repeated how enjoyable he finds working with him, and even claimed he is one of his most reliable associates. Over time, they have formed a great friendship and working relationship as exhibited in RRR, so Rajamouli’s latest comments only help support this collaborative relationship.
