In a dramatic turn of events during the Andhra Pradesh Assembly session on Wednesday, Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu spoke sharply against YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Even after accusing Jagan of falsely presenting his stance and trying to browbeat him, Ayyanna said that he was prepared to forgive the former Chief Minister. But he appealed to Jagan to alter his style of functioning, warning that if such acts were repeated, the Assembly would be forced to take the necessary action.
When the session started, Speaker Ayyanna handled the matter by a special ruling. He identified that YSRCP had won less than 10% of seats in the recent polls. Still, Jagan had issued a letter claiming to be acknowledged as the Leader of the Opposition. Ayyanna faulted the letter for having misleading information that defied Assembly privileges.
The Speaker also disclosed that Jagan had approached the High Court. He blamed YSRCP for falsely spreading the word that the court had served notices to him in the matter. Though claiming the right to act sternly against Jagan for violating the norms of the Assembly, Ayyanna preferred to interpret the issue as political oratory and indicated that he was ready to leave the issue behind. He gave a warning, however, that in case Jagan abandoned his strategy, the Assembly would discuss the action to be taken against him.
