High Court Rejects Bail Plea of Former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi

Sunday, April 20, 2025

Former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi suffered a major setback today as the High Court rejected his bail plea. Vamsi was arrested a few days back on charges of threatening a complainant in the case of the attack on the Gannavaram TDP office and has been remanded to Vijayawada Jail ever since.

The matter dates back to the time of Vamsi serving as an MLA during the past YSRCP government when he was allegedly behind an attack on the Gannavaram office of TDP. The alleged attack came in response to Satya Vardhan, a Dalit youth and a computer operator of the office, making a complaint that resulted in Vamsi and 88 others being charged with an atrocity.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Satya Vardhan later withdrew his complaint, raising doubts about possible coercion. Upon further investigation, the police uncovered shocking details—it was found that Vamsi’s close aides, Kommakotlu and Ramu, had allegedly threatened him into taking back his statement. Reports also suggest that Satya Vardhan was forcibly taken to Hyderabad and kept at Vamsi’s residence before retracting his allegations. Consequently, the police arrested Vamsi along with others and took them to judicial custody.

Prior to his arrest, Vamsi had sought anticipatory bail from the court, but today the High Court rejected his request. In the meanwhile, another petition for granting special facilities in prison has been submitted by Vamsi and will be heard today at Vijayawada Atrocity Court.

This legal breakthrough has also triggered heated political debates, with the case entailing a former MLA and claims of intimidation and misconduct. With the High Court’s strong stand, all attention is now on the pending court hearings.
