Munikrishna, the candidate from Telugu Desam Party, emerged victorious, defeating Laddu Bhaskar of the YSR Congress Party. The election was held following the resignation of Abhinay Reddy, the son of former YSR Congress legislator Bhumana Karunakara Reddy.
Abhinay Reddy stepped down from the Deputy Mayor position last year to focus on his assembly election campaign. The unexpected win by the Telugu Desam Party in the Deputy Mayor election, conducted at Sri Venkateswara University, has garnered widespread attention. The party secured the backing of 26 corporators, while YSRCP earned 21 votes in this highly contested race.
