Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Dwarka Tirumala Rao is set to retire on January 31, sparking discussions about his successor.

According to the seniority list, Madireddy Pratap, a 1991-batch IPS officer and current Director General of the Fire Services Department, is ranked first. Harish Kumar Gupta, a 1992-batch IPS officer who currently heads the Vigilance and Enforcement Department, is in second place.

Sources suggest that Harish Kumar Gupta is likely to be appointed as the new DGP. Meanwhile, following his retirement, Dwarka Tirumala Rao, who also serves as the in-charge Managing Director of APSRTC, may continue in his current role at APSRTC.

Harish Kumar Gupta briefly held the DGP position during the general elections, but Dwarka Tirumala Rao was appointed to the post after the coalition government came into power.

The appointment of the new DGP is expected to have significant implications for the state’s police administration.
