BRS Working President and former minister K.T. Rama Rao lamented that all farmer suicides are government murders. He accused the Revanth Reddy government for not implementing its promises, causing a crisis among farmers.
He attended the first meeting of the panel constituted by the BRS to study the farmer suicides and crisis in agriculture in Telangana, led by former agriculture minister Niranjan Reddy. The meeting was held at the residence of Niranjan Reddy in Manchirevula on Wednesday.
KTR made it clear that there is no political motive behind the committee formation and said the tragic incident of a farmer committing suicide in Adilabad district led to formation of this panel. Asserting that farmers are always at the heart of the party, he said that BRS is not only the `Bharatiya Rashtra Samiti’, but also the `Bharatiya Rythu Samiti’.
KTR said that the BRS study committee will conduct district tours to instill confidence in the families of farmers who committed suicide due to frustration with the Congress government. He said that this committee, formed on the orders of BRS president KCR, will start its work from the former Adilabad district from Friday.
He said that for the next month, the committee members will meet farmers of all sections in all districts and study issues like to what extent loan waiver has been done? What is actually happening in the state? How is the electricity supply? How is the cultivation situation? Will the support price be available? What happened to the bonus..? What happened to the purchase centers? Are the farmer forums working?
KTR said that the problems faced by the farmers will be examined at the field level and the reasons for the suicides will be studied and a report will be prepared, which will be submitted to BRS President KCR and the state government.
He recalled that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, many promises were made in the name of Warangal Declaration by the Congress. They said that they would increase the bonus for the crop, farmer assurance, support price and purchase centers.
KTR said that farmers believed all this that they would waive off loans of Rs 2 lakhs after the Congress party came to power. Since this government did not implement the promises given to the farmers, he deplored that the farmers are disappointed and depressed due to the wrong decisions of the government. So far, he said that more than 400 breadwinners have committed suicide.
