Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu emphasized the critical role of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in disaster management, stating that it is the first organization that comes to mind during crises. He was speaking at the 20th Foundation Day celebrations of the NDRF, held in Kondapavuluru, erstwhile Krishna district. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the event.
The Chief Minister, alongside Amit Shah, inaugurated the NDRF 10th Battalion campus and the South Campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM). During his address, Chandrababu praised the NDRF for its efficient response to natural disasters such as floods, wildfires, earthquakes, and other calamities. “The NDRF has saved millions of lives across India and has extended its services internationally during the 2011 Japan disaster, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, and the 2023 Turkey earthquake,” he noted.
Highlighting their efforts during local crises, Chandrababu recalled their exemplary work during the 2014 Hudhud cyclone and the recent Budameru floods in Andhra Pradesh.
He also spoke about the establishment of the NDRF campus in Andhra Pradesh, stating that it was mandated by the bifurcation act. “In 2014, the foundation stone for the NDRF campus was laid by then Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and in 2018, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation for the NIDM campus. We allocated 50 acres for the NDRF 10th Battalion and 10 acres for the NIDM campus. It is a matter of pride to see Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurate these facilities today,” Chandrababu added.
