The Andhra Pradesh government has launched an inquiry into senior IPS officer and former CID chief Sunil Kumar, following allegations of serious misconduct. To ensure a fair and detailed investigation, a special committee has been constituted, featuring Revenue Department Special Chief Secretary R.P. Sisodia and Vigilance DG Harish Kumar Gupta. The inquiry panel has been tasked with examining the allegations thoroughly and submitting a comprehensive report as directed by Chief Secretary K. Vijay Anand.

The allegations against Sunil Kumar gained momentum after Deputy Speaker Raghurama Krishna Raju addressed a formal letter to the ACB DG, detailing his accusations. Raju claimed that Sunil Kumar was involved in the misappropriation of ₹75 lakh, allegedly transferring the funds into fake accounts under the guise of a private technology contract. Additionally, Raju accused Sunil Kumar of using coercion to extract more money. He further alleged the misuse of funds in the AgriGold case, reportedly in partnership with Tulasi Babu.

The matter has reached a national level as Raghurama Krishna Raju lodged complaints against Sunil Kumar in Delhi, alleging custodial torture and other violations. Based on these allegations, the state government’s inquiry panel is looking to establish facts and present them for appropriate action.

Such high-profile investigation brings public and political attention to itself. There have been demands by people for an inquiry into such incidents with adequate transparency and accountability. The state government is most likely to use the inquiry report in its course of action to face the allegations levelled against the senior IPS officer.
