Serious crimes Increased 22.53 percent Drastically In Telangana

The crime rate in Telangana has increased drastically. Serious crimes have increased by 22.53 percent this year. Inter-state thieves have taken over the state, an average of 78 different types of thefts are taking place every day in the state due to lack of action at the field level. This year, the number of contract killings in the state has increased drastically.

DGP Jitender revealed details that reflect the government’s performance and the law and order situation in the state in the form of an annual crime report on Sunday. The report revealed that all types of crimes have increased by 10 percent in the first 11 months of this year compared to last year. Of this, serious crimes have increased by 22.53 percent.

The number of crimes against women, SCs and STs has increased drastically in the state. Compared to the previous year, rape cases have increased by 2945 (28.94%), murders of women by 13.15 percent. Cases of incitement to suicide have increased by 363.  While 1,877 cases were registered against SCs and STs last year, 2,257 (an increase of 20.24%) cases were registered in 11 months of this year.

Of these victims, 1251 were under the age of 18, while 274 were above the age of 18. A total of 2,34,158 cases were registered across the state in the 11 months of this year. This number was recorded as 2,13,121 last year. This has revealed that the crime rate in total cases has increased by 9.87%.

While convictions were recorded in 39,371 cases in 2023, this year the conviction rate was recorded in only 28,477 cases (-27.67%). Of these, 3 were death sentences. 18 were life imprisonment, 3 were sentences of three to more than seven years, and 11 were sentences of one to three years.

In 3 rape cases, four people were sentenced to life imprisonment, and in 5 other cases, five people were sentenced to 20 years in prison. In 51 cases of crimes against women, 70 people were sentenced to life imprisonment. In 77 POCSO cases, 82 people were sentenced to life imprisonment.

DGP Jitender said that the state is peaceful except for one or two incidents. He said that cyber crimes have increased by 43.44 percent and that a crackdown is being imposed on drugs. He said that 20 tons of ganja have been seized and a large amount of synthetic drugs have been seized. He said that 23,491 road accidents were registered, resulting in 6,640 deaths. He said that attacks and harassment against women increased by 4.78 percent.
