Opposition suspects Revanth Musi Beautification Is only A `Real Estate Drama’

Friday, December 27, 2024

The opposition parties are suspecting that the hysterical drama that the Revanth Reddy government has been carrying out on the Musi beautification project for the past year is only a real estate drama. They recalled that even before preparation of the project report (DPR), the officials started demolition of more than 170 houses and over 16,000 houses were red-marked for demolition.

In addition, the state government, which had prepared a large-scale demolition of the remaining residences, has been stalled in its progress due to public opposition. In addition to this, when Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that this project would be undertaken at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.50 lakh crore. Now, everyone one expressing doubts that what is going to happen in the Musi river basin?

There were huge allegations about the estimated cost of this project increasing by one Rs. 1 lakh crore in a matter of months, which is unprecedented anywhere in the world. As part of the corrective measures, CM Revanth Reddy said not just beautification, Musi River is being revived. He countered by saying, “If we want to save the river that is in a cesspool, where did it go?”

He said that the structures in the FTL and buffer zones will be removed so that clean Godavari water can flow into the river. A walk was also taken out in the joint Nalgonda district located downstream. On the other hand, ministers and Nalgonda district Congress leaders also made announcements that the Musi River will be repaired but there is no real estate in it.

‘In our Hyderabad too, a river flows through the middle of the city, just like in Seoul. That is why CM Revanth Reddy came here on a tour and sent us here after knowing this. Restaurants and all these (skyscrapers) have come up next to Chung Chai Chun. All these are projects that have come up under the PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) model. If Musi in Hyderabad is also made like this, it will be recognized in the world…’, the group of ministers who went to Seoul a few days ago clearly said.

This has already raised concerns among the people about the future of the Musi watershed. In addition to this, a few days ago, Minister Sridhar Babu and TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud  made it clear that a growth corridor of one kilometer on both sides of Musi will be developed and land will be acquired to that extent. With this, the opposition felt that the real goal of the state government was revealed to be the skyscraper projects mentioned by the ministers during the Seoul visit.
