TDP MLA keen To Get Hold over YCP’s Proddatur Municipality

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

In an attempt to give a rude shock to former chief minister and YCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy, in his own Kadapa district TDP MLA Nandyala Varadarajula Reddy is making an all-out efforts to get hold over Proddatur Municipality, which is now ruled by YCP.

There are 41 wards in the Proddatur Municipality. The TDP has won only one ward. The YSRCP won the remaining wards. Ramesh Yadav, who was elected from the 11th ward, resigned after he was elected as an MLC. That means there are 40 councilors.

However, the 33rd ward councilor, Gajula Sivajyothi, who won from the TDP, joined the YSRCP a few days before the general elections. At the same time, YCP councilors Panganur Muralidhar Reddy, Munir, YS Mohammed Ghaus, Chintakunta Saritha, Jambapuram Venkalakshmi, who were in disagreement with YCP MLA Rachamallu, joined the TDP. Another councilor Irfan joined the Congress.

After suffering a crushing defeat in the general elections, the migration from YCP to TDP began. In several installments, a total of 18 people have joined the TDP so far. However, to gain the upper hand in the council, 21 out of 40 people must be in the TDP. This means that if three more YCP councilors join the TDP, the majority will be in the council. The items on the agenda can be approved in the council.

However, to remove the municipal chairperson or vice-chairperson from office by a vote of no confidence, there must be a 2/3 majority of the total members in the house. That is, at least 28 members out of 40 members must be present. Although there are already 18 members, the TDP needs ten more councilors.

It is reliable information that three more councilors in the YCP are already in touch with the TDP. Ex-officio members, MLAs, MLCs and MPs have the right to vote. Since the MLA is a TDP candidate, even if one vote goes to the TDP, the YCP will get the votes of MP Avinash Reddy and MLC Ramesh Yadav.

After the YSRCP Chairperson was removed from office through a no-confidence motion, there is also a dilemma in the TDP as to who should be made the municipal chairman. There are already three or four factions in the TDP.

If the chairman is made in favor of one faction, there will inevitably be disagreement in the other faction. In this situation, the MLA faction believes that the YSRCP Chairperson will not move a no-confidence motion and will only be limited to a majority in the council.
