BRS MLC K. Kavitha has demanded that the BJP immediately set up a steel plant in Bayyaram, even if it has any sincerity or love for Telangana. She recalled that since the time of the Telangana movement, they have been fighting under the leadership of KCR, saying that Bayyaram steel is the right of Telangana.
She recalled that KCR had written a letter to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 to set up a steel plant in Bayyaram. She said that there are more than 300 million tons of iron ore reserves in more than 1.41 lakh acres in Bayyaram. She said that KCR’s idea is that if a steel plant comes there, local employment opportunities and jobs will increase.
Kavitha also recalled that the state Reorganization Act has clearly stipulated that a steel plant should be set up in Bayyaram, and no matter which party is in power at the center, the law must be implemented. She said that the BJP, which has been in power at the center for more than ten years, has not implemented its promise.
She revealed that during KCR’s tenure as Chief Minister, pressure was brought to bear on the central government on many occasions. He criticized the BJP government for making excuses that a steel industry is not possible due to the quality of iron ore. She said that KCR had also talked to the state government of Chhattisgarh to bring another 100 million tons of iron ore from Telangana, which is required to make the plant possible here.
Kavitha deplored that it was sad that Union Minister Kishan Reddy from Telangana had remained as a mute spectator in the Parliament the Center declared that a steel industry would not be established. She lamented that it was regrettable that even if eight BJP MPs were elected from the state, not even one of them responded.
She recalled that the current minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy had demanded a steel plant when he was an MP in the past, but he is not talking about it now. She demanded that the Congress government in the state should put pressure on the BJP government and get a steel plant established in the state.
