There is a rife speculation that Megastar Chiranjeevi is preparing for a comeback to the political arena. According to reports, the Central Government is considering nominating the legendary actor to the Rajya Sabha under the President’s quota. This would be a recognition of his immense contributions to Indian cinema and his efforts in social service. So far, no word has been received, though sources say that a decision may be in the offing.
The decision to re-enter politics is a perfect opportunity for Chiranjeevi, with his younger brother Pawan Kalyan spreading his influence in the political scene. Pawan’s Jana Sena Party, being an important ally of the ruling NDA, was instrumental in the recent Andhra Pradesh elections supporting the alliance led by TDP. His close relations with the BJP leadership in Delhi are said to have paved the way for the recommendation for his nomination.
The quota for Rajya Sabha seats in the President has traditionally been reserved for distinguished personalities across different walks of life. Some previous nominees include such big names as former Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Olympic icon PT Usha, legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja, acclaimed screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad, and renowned philanthropist Sudha Murthy. Including Chiranjeevi in this list would mark a celebration of his unique legacy in the arts and public causes.
It wouldn’t be the first time Chiranjeevi has entered Rajya Sabha. He already had a stint, contesting for the Congress and also as the Minister for Tourism in the Government under the UPA 2.0. With this stint over, he announced a halt to the life of an active politician to instead return to filmmaking and make movies of big successes, which drew full crowds all over India.
If nominated, Chiranjeevi’s return to the political stage is expected to be in a non-partisan role, allowing him to contribute to public service while maintaining a neutral stance. Such a move would not only strengthen his legacy but also enable him to bridge his cinematic achievements with impactful contributions to the nation.
