Amid uproar in both the Houses of Parliament, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met the Speaker and urged for discussion on all matters including the Adani row. Gandhi also asked Om Birla to expunge the “derogatory” remarks made against him in the Lower House.
Rahul Gandhi said, “I held a meeting with the Speaker. I told him that derogatory comments against me should be expunged. The Speaker said that he would look into it. Our aim is that the House must run and discussion should happen in the House”.
“No matter what they say about me, we want there to be a debate on December 13. They don’t want a discussion on Adani. In the end, we will not leave this. They will keep levelling allegations on us but the House must function,” he added.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day after the Opposition created a ruckus seeking the removal of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. On Tuesday, Opposition INDIA bloc MPs gave notice to bring a no-confidence motion against Dhankhar, accusing him of “partisan” conduct in the Upper House.
The notice has sparked a political row with both the Opposition and the Centre standing firm on their positions. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, during his address, attacked the Congress over the impeachment notice, calling the allegations against the Chair baseless.
The minister said Dhankhar, a son of farmer, has been a protector of the dignity of the House and added that the treasury benches will defend any move to attack the honour and dignity of the Chair. “We will not allow this.” Rijiju, thereafter, raised the issue of alleged nexus between US hedge fund tycoon George Soros and Congress that, ruling party has allegedly posed a threat to national security.
In a unique protest, Opposition MPs greeted their BJP counterparts in Parliament premises by giving them the national flag and a red rose, urging them to ensure the House proceedings continue and all issues including the Adani row, is discussed.
