Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Friday unveiled the design of the Telangana Talli statue, which is set to be installed at the Secretariat. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the 20-foot bronze statue on December 9.
Designed to depict a traditional woman, the statue features anklets, toe rings, a green saree with a turmeric-yellow border, and a necklace adorned with grains such as maize, paddy, jowar, and bajra, symbolizing Telangana’s rich agricultural heritage.
A Symbol of Telangana’s Identity
The Telangana Talli statue is a tribute to the state’s cultural legacy and the spirit of its people. It represents the mother figure of Telangana, reflecting the struggles and sacrifices made during the statehood movement. The design also highlights the role of marginalized communities in achieving statehood, showcasing inclusivity and traditional values.
The revised design stands apart from the earlier depiction of Telangana Talli, which had faced criticism for portraying a regal figure disconnected from the region’s cultural roots. The new model aligns with the aspirations of the people, embodying their traditions and heritage.
Creation of the Statue
The statue was conceptualized by Professor Gangadhar, who also designed the earlier version of Telangana Talli. Sculptor M.V. Ramana Reddy, known for his artistic contributions and active role in the Telangana movement, crafted the statue in bronze.
Reddy, a prominent artist born in 1966, has previously designed notable works, including the Telangana Amarajyothi and the Rajiv Gandhi statue opposite the Secretariat.
The new Telangana Talli statue is expected to become a significant symbol of the state’s cultural and historical identity, inspiring future generations.
