Varun Tej is having a hard time after a series of failures, with his last release Matka being one of the biggest disappointments. Despite a massive production budget and huge expectations, it could not catch the attention of the audience and received a lot of negative reviews from critics.
To expand its reach, Matka is set to stream on Amazon Prime starting December 5, just three weeks after its theatrical release. Directed by Karuna Kumar, known for Palasa, the film features Meenakshi Chaudhary in the lead role, with Bollywood’s Nora Fatehi playing a significant part.
Set against the backdrop of 1958 to 1982, Matka follows the journey of Vasu, a Burmese refugee who rises from rags to riches in Vizag. Produced by Rajini Talluri and Dr. Vijayender Reddy Theegala under SRT Entertainments and Vyra Entertainments, the film now hopes to find a fresh audience through its digital release. Whether it can turn around its fortunes on OTT remains to be seen.
