As Telangana’s Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his Congress government mark their first anniversary on December 7, a new twist in the state’s political drama is catching attention. Amid the celebrations of a year in power, a defamation lawsuit has been filed against the CM, adding fuel to the fire of ongoing political debates.
The defamation case follows a series of legal battles tied to controversial remarks made by Minister Konda Surekha. High-profile figures like actor Akkineni Nagarjuna and BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao has already filed similar lawsuits, which are currently being heard at the Nampally Court. The latest case, however, against CM Revanth Reddy, has stirred even more controversy, particularly due to its timing during the anniversary celebrations of his government.
The lawsuit was initiated by BJP Telangana General Secretary Kasam Venkateshwarulu who accuses the CM of falsely claiming victory during the Lok Sabha recent campaign. Petitioner of the case claimed that this accusation damaged the image of the BJP party and tainted the reputation of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The argument by the petitioner’s counsel was presented in the hearing session on November 28. The counsel claimed the remarks made by the CM were baseless and malafide. After much deliberation, the court deferred the hearing to December 11, leaving much anxiety ahead in the case.
With the Congress government under an intense scrutiny and the opposition going all guns blazing to unleash criticism, this legal drama added a new dimension to the political scenario of Telangana and ensured that every eye will remain glued to the courtroom for weeks to come.
