No biopic on ANR – A clever Decision By Nag

Wednesday, November 27, 2024

Biopics on legendary personalities and notable individuals belonging to several fields are often attempted in different film industries. Most of them turn out to be blockbusters because people love to revisit the stories of their favourite demigods in the form of cinema. But, not all of them are successful. Some biopics failed so badly and left a huge embarrassment.

One such example of a failed biopic is that Tollywood legendary actor NTR. Actor and NTR’s son Nandamuri Balakrishna attempted to create a memorable biopic for his father and faced a lot of criticism because both parts of NTR biopic ended as huge disasters. Critics felt that it was bad idea to attempt a biopic of such a legendary actor who has both political and professional rivals in his career.

Apart from NTR, another legendary actor who left an indelible impact in the hearts of Telugu audience was Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Just like NTR, ANR was also extremely popular in those days. So, it is not unusual for his fans to expect a biopic on his life from any of his family members.

Even Telugu film industry also welcomes if a biopic is made on ANR. But, ANR’s son Akkineni Nagarjuna came up with a disappointing news to not just Akkineni fans but also to TFI fans. He clarified that there will no biopic on ANR because it will be boring as there were no highs and lows in his life to make the movie interesting and absorbing.

While Nag’s rationale behind his decision might hold true to some extent, there is a public perception that he might be aware of the reception of NTR biopic and made his made to not get embarrassed like Balakrishna. So, he played it safe. He simply said there will be no biopic but only a documentary to relive the great moments in ANR’s life.

It is indeed a clever decision by the Akkineni scion.
