Varun Tej’s Matka Takes An Awful start In All Territories

Friday, November 15, 2024

It seems like Mega Prince Varun Tej’s career woes are not ending any sooner. Despite trying out versatile subjects and attempting different genres, Varun is unable to pull the audiences to theatres. His market took a huge beating with a glut of flops in recent times. And his latest offering Matka, a period drama which showed signs on ending his flop streak, is no different story as it took a terrible opening.

Directed by Karuna Kumar, Matka created a decent buzz with intense teasers and impressive trailer. Unfortunately, the openings are shockingly awful in all territories. It is quite an embarrassment for Varun because Matka couldn’t even collect a theatrical share of 1 Crore on its opening day. The film managed to accumulate around 70 Lakhs share and handed over another disappointment for the Mega hero who put in a lot of effort and played a multifaceted character.

Matka secured below par reviews due to lack of strong narrative and formulaic screenplay. Varun’s dynamic screen presence and the grand production values are the only positives for the film. So, the word of mouth is very mediocre and the film needs a miraculous turn around from such a poor start to turn the tables for the buyers. In overseas, the film is likely to be a complete washout.

The film is made on a massive budget and the chances of even 50 % recovery look very bleak. Poor promotional campaign is one of the reasons for such a pathetic opening and the impact of Suriya’s magnum opus Kanguva is also clearly visible with the dismal numbers secured by Matka.
