YSR Congress party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and his own sister YS Sharmila, who is the president of AP Congress, have been at loggerheads not just politically but also personally over sharing of assets. The sibling rivalry has become a strong talking point in the media and quite often both of them are engaging in war of words. While Sharmila is training her guns without any restraint, Jagan seems to be in fear to counterattack her. This is evident today evening when Jagan held a press meet to address several issues.
When one journalist asked about her sister and AP Congress party chief YS Sharmila’s sharp comments demanding the resignation of all YSRCP MLAs if they don’t attend the assembly, Jagan Mohan Reddy replied ‘ Let’s not talk about my sister because her party has just 1.7 percent votes in the state and it is an insignificant party in AP politics.
A couple of days ago, YS Sharmila came down heavily on Jagan for not attending the crucial budget sessions in the assembly and fight on public issues. She asked Jagan and his remaining MLAs to immediately resign from their posts if they fail to fulfil their obligation as people’s representatives.
Though Sharmila raised a valid point on why all 11 of them should continue as MLAs when they don’t attend the assembly and voice the opinion of public on various issues which is mandatory for any elected representative, Jagan couldn’t come up with a convincing answer but tried to skip the question by stating the Congress has negligible vote share in the state.
Jagan held a two hour press meet and made several allegations on the government with regard to Andhra Pradesh debts, power tariffs, jobs and other aspects. He tried to project that his government fulfilled all promises despite COVID pandemic. Time and again, he backed his decision to skip assembly with the pretext that the speaker will treat him as any other MLA and won’t allot adequate time to talk about public issues without the status of Opposition Party.
