Varra Ravinder Reddy Arrested in Telangana Over Social Media Posts

Friday, November 8, 2024

Varra Ravinder Reddy, personal assistant to the wife of YS Jagan and a social activist from the YSRCP party, has been arrested for offensive posts during the YSRCP government on alliance party leaders and their family members on social media. He was arrested after a proper investigation in Mahabubnagar in Telangana. However, the initial arrest made by the Kadapa police was marred by an unexpected turn of events when Ravinder was released, leading to scrutiny of the police’s handling of the matter.

Varra Ravinder Reddy was the center of controversy for posting derogatory content concerning the alliance government on social media. The police arrested him and took him to the Kadapa station; a 41A notice was issued to him directing him to attend for questioning. In the course of further investigations, Ravinder slipped out of police custody, which sounds like mishandling his detention.

After the escape, four police teams were dispatched for tracking him down, which eventually caught up with Ravinder in Mahabubnagar and was arrested. Reports suggest that Ravinder is to be brought to Kadapa where he will be produced before the local court. Given the nature of charges, there is a strong possibility that Ravinder would be remanded in custody for further legal proceedings.

The incident has sparked a wider investigation into the handling of Ravinder’s case, with the government taking swift action against the police officials involved. SP Harshvardhan Raju, along with the DSP and CI, are facing consequences for their failure to manage the arrest properly, underlining the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability in such cases.
