The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu, will convene tomorrow (November 6) at 11 a.m. Key discussions are expected on the proposal to repeal the 1982 Land Grabbing Act. The government has identified that certain provisions within the current law have hindered the registration of cases.
The administration believes that during the previous YSRCP regime, millions of acres were encroached upon, with land grabbing complaints accounting for 80% of grievances received. Due to challenges in addressing such issues under the existing law, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to introduce a new law to replace the Land Grabbing Act of 1982.
Initially, a Land Grabbing Prohibition Bill is set to be presented, and the cabinet is likely to discuss and approve this proposal.
Additionally, the cabinet will deliberate on a proposal to reserve 34% of nominated positions for the Backward Classes (BCs). The coalition government has already decided to revoke the law introduced by the previous YSRCP administration on appointments to nominated posts, along with the associated Government Order No. 77, which the cabinet is expected to approve.
The 2017 Smart Pulse Survey report will be used as a basis for discussions, and policies related to drones, semiconductors, and data centers are also on the agenda for approval.
Further topics include CM Chandrababu’s proposal to increase the sports quota in government jobs from 2% to 3%, along with a cash reward of ₹7 crore for Olympic gold medalists. The allocation of land for establishing an ArcelorMittal steel plant is also expected to be addressed in tomorrow’s meeting.
