Sabitha Indra Reddy slams First Time police Families Hitting Roads

Friday, November 22, 2024

BRS MLA and former Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy deplored that for the first time in the history that police families are hitting the road demanding implementation of one police policy. She blamed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy as the reason for the constables’ families to come out on the road.

She alleged that Police families came out because of the failure of Revanth, who is holding the Home Department. She said that it is painful for police personnel to take to the road to seek justice. Revanth Reddy, is this what democracy means?, she asked.

She expressed concern that due to the absence of a home minister in the state, the constables do not know whom to address their grievances. She said that Telangana has come to a situation where they have to wear uniforms and perform dharnas.

However, she expressed anger that the lack of minimum response from the government is outrageous. Sabita demanded that CM Revanth should keep his word on a single police system and the old practice of spending 4 days out of 15 days with family should be continued.

She deplored that police families are situations where even children do not remember their fathers and atrocities against women have become common in the state. She demanded that DGP level officials should intervene and solve the problem.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day indicating that the protest by families of police constables was far from over despite the State’s attempts to pacify them, the constables too joined the protests on Saturday.

Personnel from different battalions took the streets, that too in uniform, in different districts in a rare sight in  Telangana. The agitation is said to have intensified after a senior official during a counselling session allegedly asked some of the protesting wives as to who had asked them to marry TGSP constables.

A video of an officer raising objection over the attitude of senior officers towards their families went viral, with the officer being seen telling a senior official that after their family members had staged protests, they were called for counseling.

“During the counseling session, a senior officer asked our family members as to who asked you to marry TGSP constables. How can senior officers speak like that with the woman, who is already under a lot of distress,” the officer is seen questioning the senior official.

Personnel from different battalions are staging protests across the districts on Saturday. Perhaps for the first time in the history of Telangana, constables were seen staging protests in uniforms.
