Kakani Govardhan Reddy has expressed his belief that the TDP will remain in power in Andhra Pradesh for only two more years. With the Jamili elections approaching in 2027, he emphasized that the party’s reign is nearing its end. Reddy cautioned officials about the potential consequences of siding with the TDP, suggesting they could face significant challenges in the future. He also accused the authorities of collaborating with illicit sand and liquor cartels, asserting that a staggering 90% of liquor shops operating under a lottery scheme are controlled by TDP leaders, highlighting the deep-rooted issues within the state’s governance.
Kakani Govardhan Reddy has raised concerns that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s newly introduced liquor policy is designed primarily to favor TDP leaders. He highlighted that the allocation process for liquor shop licenses serves as evidence for his claims. Reddy emphasized that although this new excise policy may provide certain benefits to Chandrababu and his coalition partners, it will ultimately create challenges for the general public who consume alcohol. Additionally, he pointed out that the Chief Minister is implementing a tiered system for wine shop licenses, where those who secure these establishments are reportedly dividing their earnings in a 60-40 split. Reddy’s remarks underscore a growing dissatisfaction with the government’s approach to liquor regulation in the state.
