Is the Tirumala Laddu Controversy A Distraction From EVM Tampering Claims?

Saturday, November 23, 2024

The developments in Haryana during the vote counting have become a topic of national discussion. Congress’s objections to the performance of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have drawn widespread attention. As a result, the call to reintroduce the ballot system in elections is picking up steam again.

The Congress party faced a significant defeat in the Haryana Assembly elections. While they showed strong performance in the postal ballot count, their lead quickly vanished once the EVM counting commenced. After that, the Bharatiya Janata Party surged ahead and secured a decisive majority.

During the initial hour of postal ballot counting, Congress party candidates were ahead in 71 constituencies. However, the results quickly turned chaotic. The BJP established a substantial lead right from the start. As the counting of votes from the EVMs progressed, Congress’s lead significantly eroded.

The BJP made an unexpected leap forward, clinching a hat-trick with 48 seats in Haryana. Meanwhile, Congress, which had initially held the lead in 71 constituencies, found itself limited to just 37. Unable to come to terms with the results, Congress expressed doubts regarding the operation of the EVMs.

Vijayasai Reddy, MP from the YSR Congress Party, weighed in on the recent developments, pointing out that the Election Commission posted Form 20 on its website three months after the elections in Andhra Pradesh. He accused TDP goons of creating chaos during the first two weeks to stop any public discourse and to prevent citizens from seeking legal recourse.
