The government is preparing to help the people who have suffered severely due to heavy rains and floods. Conducting a review on enumeration of flood losses, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that if the process is completed, distribution of assistance to flood victims may be started from September 17th.
He made it clear that the government needs to ensure that every victim gets help. He said that the enumeration should be done properly and government aid should reach everyone who has suffered, and the compensation should be scientifically thought out and a list drawn up.
The government estimates that 2,13,456 houses have been submerged due to floods. The enumeration of 84, 505 houses has been completed so far. Crops were damaged in 2,14,698 hectares. They will be compensated. Officials told the CM that they are re-verifying the enumeration and collecting the loss for each victim.
The government is planning to extend assistance to those on the first floor as well as those whose houses have been completely submerged. The government is thinking of giving one amount to those on the first floor whose houses were damaged due to the flood, and some amount to those on the second floor and above. They are also thinking of giving compensation to the damaged two-wheelers.
Those whose house is completely damaged will be given a new house as per government norms. After the enumeration process is completed, the government will take a decision on the financial assistance.
Later Chief Minister Chandrababu conducted a high-level review at Vijayawada Collectorate with representatives of bankers and insurance agencies to help the flood victims. Urban Development Minister Dr P. Narayana said that the CM has suggested that the insurance companies and bankers should complete the matters under their purview as soon as possible.
He said that the claims have been cleared quickly without harassing the victims of the calamity. Based on the report, a decision will be taken on what to do to whom by 17th. He said that the damage assessment was delayed due to the fact that many people were not at home or had gone to other places.
