Story:
Gowri (Abhirami) is a bank employee, and her son’s name is Radha (Raj Tarun). Radha’s profession involves draping sarees for women who don’t know how to wear them, hence he is known as a “Saree Draper.” During a wedding event, he meets Krishna (Manisha Kandukuri), and what starts as a small altercation turns into a romantic journey. Radha’s style is to drape sarees without touching the women, which leads Krishna to question his masculinity. What happens next? How true are the rumors about Radha being unsuitable as a husband? Why does Radha keep his distance from women? What is his past? The film explores these questions and reveals what ultimately happens.
Review:
Raj Tharun’s performance as a saree draper in Bhale Unnade was commendable, offering a fresh and well-suited appearance. Nevertheless, his acting style felt somewhat conventional, leaning on familiar expressions and emotions.
Abhirami stands out as a modern mother with a close, friend-like relationship with her son. Her portrayal of emotional scenes, especially in the flashback sequence, is particularly moving.
VTV Ganesh and Hyper Adi provide a dose of humor, adding some fun to the film, and several scenes between the lead characters in the second half are quite engaging. The rest of the cast performs their roles effectively.
The film has an intriguing premise, but the director fails to deliver it effectively. The explanation for the protagonist’s peculiar behavior towards women is poorly articulated and remains unclear to the audience throughout. Although the backstory involving Raj Tarun and his mother is shown, it lacks detail, making it hard to understand the reasons behind the protagonist’s actions.
Manisha Kandukuri’s portrayal of an excessively enthusiastic character often seems misplaced and irritating, detracting from the overall story. Her overly energetic behavior disrupts the film’s tone and mood.
Singeetham Srinivas Rao and Leela Samson’s roles do not significantly influence the main storyline. Their scenes could have been more thoughtfully developed to add emotional depth. Additionally, many scenes, especially the comedy involving Racha Ravi in the second half, are poorly executed and lack coherence.
Sivasai Vardhan’s intriguing concept is undermined by uneven storytelling, affecting the film’s overall engagement. The backstory is presented inconsistently. Technically, the film fares well with attractive visuals from Nagesh Banell. However, the lack of Shekhar Chandra’s musical contributions is felt, and Srikanth Patnaik’s editing could have been more refined. Nevertheless, the production quality is otherwise praiseworthy.
Overall, Bhala Unnade has an interesting concept but is hampered by ineffective storytelling. While Raj Tarun and Abhirami deliver decent performances, the film is let down by poorly executed comedy, an irritating lead character, and superfluous scenes. You might want to consider other entertainment options for the weekend.
