Mumbai based Bollywood actor Kadambari Jethwani triggered a political storm in Andhra Pradesh with shocking allegations against the leaders of the YSR Congress party and a few top bureaucrats in the police department over her illegal arrest and physical abuse earlier this year. Appearing in a media interview a few days ago, Kadambari revealed how she was harassed by some police officers of the state at the behest of high-profile politicians affiliated to the previous government.
She alleged that YSRCP leader K. Rajasekhar, a producer and an active politician hailing from Vijayawada, had foisted false cases on forgery and distortion against her and her parents in February 2024. She complained that five police officers tortured her after arresting her in Mumbai without any prior intimation and notice. Kadambari alleged that she was subjected to ill-treatment during her judicial remand by these officers.
While the NDA government under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu decided to ascertain the facts of the case and started a thorough investigation into the veracity of the allegations made by Kadambari, she travelled from Mumbai to Vijayawada on Friday and lodged a complaint with police commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu.
In her complaint, Kadambari has reportedly alleged that former Intel Chief PSR Anjaneyulu, former CP Kanthi Rana Tana and another IPS Vishal Gunni have humiliated and threatened her and her parents. She also complained that two other police officers have also harassed her in this entire episode. She further started that they abused their power and forced her not to apply for bail.
As soon as Kadambari gave a written complaint, her statements were recorded and investigation was started by the government. These three officers are already facing the wrath of the present regime for their unreasonable favour to the previous government during the last five years in various incidents. So, it is waiting for an opportunity to teach a lesson to these officers.
If the allegations made by Kadambari turn out to be true, Naidu’s government will immediately initiate a strict disciplinary action against them.
