Amit Shah Attacks Congress- NC Alliance Says Against National Interest

Thursday, November 21, 2024

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a blistering attack on the Congress party for its alliance with the National Conference (NC) ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

He also questioned the Congress party’s position on several key issues outlined in the NC’s election manifesto, suggesting a misalignment with the national interests.

The framing of what appears to be the BJP’s poll narrative for J&K, placing Congress politics against the national backdrop,  came after the party’s core Kashmir group began its meeting at the residence of Union Minister Amit Shah on Friday.

Shah laid out the BJP’s attack on the Congress in a set of 10 questions for it on its alliance with the NC, and former Union minister Smriti Irani raised the same at a party press conference later.

Two days earlier, the BJP appointed old Kashmir hand Ram Madhav and Union minister G Kishan Reddy as election in-charges for the state. In a pointed attack, Shah posed ten questions to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, accusing the party of jeopardising national unity and security in its pursuit of power.

He charged that Congress’s decision to align with the NC was driven by a self-serving desire for political gain, at the expense of the country’s stability. Shah added that the Congress-NC alliance again showed that the Congress was ready to “risk the nation’s unity and security to satiate its greed for power”.

“The Congress party, which has repeatedly risked the nation’s unity and security to satiate its greed for power, has once again exposed its ulterior motives by allying with the Abdullah family’s ‘National Conference’ in the Jammu and Kashmir elections,” Shah said on X, listing ten questions.

The meeting held at Shah’s residence also discussed ticket distribution before an expected meeting of the BJP Central Election Committee on J&K and Haryana.he NC manifesto talks of “reviewing” the reservation policy, and says “any injustice and imbalance will be corrected”; it does not mention any specific group.
