10 percent EWS quota in AP Private Medical Colleges

Thursday, September 19, 2024

For the academic year 2024-25, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued orders to fill up 10 percent seats under the EWS quota in all government and private medical colleges in the state. Till now seats are being filled under EWS quota only in government medical colleges in the state.

However, starting this year, Chandrababu Naidu government has decided to extend this facility in Private Medical colleges also. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all the state governments to fill up the seats under the EWS quota by October 2023. In this context, the state government has issued orders to fill up seats under EWS quota in government and private medical colleges in the state.

NTR Health University has decided to fill up 10 percent seats under EWS quota in all affiliated medical colleges. The orders released by the state government are applicable for admissions in MBBS, PG and Dental courses in the academic year 2024-25. But this decision is not applicable for admissions in super specialty courses. Also, minority educational institutions are exempted from this order.

Meanwhile, suspense is continuing over the admissions in the new medical colleges established by the previous government in the state. The discussion on the approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding MBBS admissions is going on. Pulivendula, Adoni, Madanapalle, Paderu and Markapuram Medical Colleges have not received full approvals for admissions for the academic year 2024-25.

The state government and principals of five colleges have appealed on this. However, the Medical Commission has made it clear that if the state government gives an undertaking that they will correct the identified defects, then they will approve the replacement of 50 percent of the seats in Pulivendula College.

There is no response from the Medical Commission on the permission for admissions in the remaining four medical colleges. The state government had applied in August last year seeking permission to fill up one hundred seats in MBBS in each medical college.
