Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has welcomed the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the sub-classification of SC/ST reservations. Speaking at a meeting with irrigation water users in Sunnipenta near Srisailam today, Chandrababu described the Supreme Court’s decision as commendable and expressed his approval.
He mentioned that he had previously introduced sub-classification, creating categories A, B, C, and D. He emphasized that his party has always advocated for social justice and equitable distribution based on population dynamics.
The Chief Minister recalled that he had proposed the sub-classification of SC/ST reservations back in the day. In 1996-97, the Ramachandra Rao Commission was formed to study the economic conditions, which eventually led to the division into A, B, C, and D categories.
Chandrababu noted that the issue of sub-classification had been contested in various courts over the years. He explained that the Supreme Court’s seven-judge bench has now affirmed the validity of sub-classification. He also highlighted that his party ensured social justice in the allocation of election tickets.
