Chandrababu, Revanth Reddy To Discuss on 10 Issues

Friday, October 4, 2024

The agenda for the Telugu states Chief Minister’s meeting scheduled to be held on Saturday evening centered around 10 specific issues, related to AP Reorganization Act. Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy are meeting at Praja Bhavan at 6 pm.

Ministers Anagani Sathya Prasad, BC Janardhan Reddy and Kandula Durgesh, besides Chief Secretary Nirab Kumar Prasad will attend this meeting from AP. Secretaries of key departments including finance will also be present in the team of officials.

The main discussion between the two Chief Ministers will be centered around distribution of  assets mentioned in Schedule 9 and 10 of the AP Reorganization Act. The Chief Ministers of Telugu states will discuss the recommendations of the Sheila Beede Committee.

Moreover, contentious issues of electricity dues from Telangana to AP Rs. 7,200 crores and APFC issues will be discussed. Debt transfer of 15 EAP projects between two states remained unresolved. This will be figured in the discussions.

Another contentious issue of exchange of employees between two states will also figure. There are several Telangana employees working with AP Government and eager to return to Telangana government. Likewise, the Telangana government is insisting on the transfer of AP employees from here.

Also, it seems that there is a possibility that the two leaders will discuss the payment of professional tax and come to a decision. There will also be a discussion on the issue of reimbursement of expenses of joint ventures. AP will also propose to allocate three buildings in Hyderabad to AP.

On the other hand, huge amounts of Rs 8,000 crore cash balances remained in the bank accounts of the companies in Schedule 9 and 10 of the AP Reorganization Act. For the last 10 years neither government was able to make use of these funds as division of institutions between two states was completed.

Presently, two state governments are said to be focusing on utilization of these funds for development and welfare programs in their respective states.  Among the top companies in the 9th schedule, AP Genco alone is valued at Rs 2,448 crore.

Rs 2,994 crore bank balances said to be kept idle related to institutions mentioned in 10th schedule. In this regard, the states of AP and Telangana have already shared Rs.1,559 crores. However, the dispute between the two states is still not settled in the matter of Rs.1,435 crore.
