Ruckus ensued in the Lok Sabha amid LoP and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s first speech in the 18th Lok Sabha. The uproar was first witnessed when Gandhi gestured to the Treasury Bench and said that “those who call themselves Hindus talk about violence”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi objected to Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Lok Sabha saying that calling the entire Hindu society violent is a serious issue.Rahul Gandhi remarked that PM Modi is always serious. In response, PM Modi intervened in the speech for the second time saying that the Constitution has taught him to take the Leader of the Opposition seriously.
Hitting back at the Prime Minister, Rahul Gandhi said that BJP and Narendra Modi are not the entire Hindu society. “Narendra Modi is not the entire Hindu society. BJP is not the entire Hindu society. RSS is not the entire Hindu society. This is not BJP’s contract,” said the LoP.
In a fiery speech Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, asserting that Hinduism is not about spreading fear, hatred and falsehoods.He accused the BJP of launching systematic attacks on the Constitution and the fundamental idea of India, noting that millions of people have resisted the ideas proposed by the ruling party.
“I was attacked on the orders of PM Modi. There were 20-plus cases (against me), (my) house was taken away, 55 hours of interrogation by the ED,” Gandhi said. Despite these challenges, the MP from Rae Bareli expressed pride in the collective effort to protect the Constitution. “It feels nice that BJP people are now repeating ‘Jai samvidhan’ after me,” he said.
Meanwhile, Union Ministers Bhupendra Yadav and Amit Shah take exception to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks. Yadav observed that Rahul Gandhi did not address the chair in an appropriate fashion and his comments were out of line.
Shah added that the Hindu religion is followed by millions in the country and the Congress Gandhi should apologise for his remarks for calling them violent. He further asked Rahul Gandhi to consult Islamic teachers about his assertions linking the teachings of Islam to ‘Abhay Mudra’.
Rahul said the NEET is not a professional examination but a commercial exam. He charged the Modi government treats Agniveers as “use-and-throw labour”. He said, “Agnipath scheme is the brainchild of PM Modi not of the armed forces. When our government is formed, we will scrap the Agnipath scheme because we think it is against armed forces, patriots.”
