Setback To Narendra Modi.. Unlikely BJP To Cross 272 Seats

Sunday, November 24, 2024

The Lok Sabha results seems to be a major setback to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who aspired to cross 400 seats for NDA. As the BJP is facing setbacks in most of the states it is ruling, the party is unlikely to cross the majority mark of 272 on its own.

At 11 am, NDA is leading in 290 seats and INDIA block is leading in 232 seats.  The NDA mark is also unlikely to cross 300 seats and the INDIA block of opposition parties are performing extremely well beyond exit poll predictions.

BJP is facing adverse results in its strong hold states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Maharashtra. In Uttar Pradesh, having the highest number of 80 Lok Sabha seats, BJP is facing hardships in nearly half of seats.

While most of Congress allies are getting double digit numbers, except TDP no other NDA allies getting double number seats. Now with over 15 seats, TDP is likely to be the major party in NDA, only next to BJP.

In a shocking indication to the BJP, Prime Minister Modi was himself trailing behind in the second round of counting from Varanasi, though he recovered later. On the otherhand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is leading in two of the constituencies, he is contesting.

Election Commission trends showed the INDIA bloc of Opposition parties leading in 42 seats in Uttar Pradesh, with the Samajwadi Party leading in 34 seats and the Congress in eight seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently leading in 35 seats.

EC trends also showed Union Minister Smriti Irani trailing by over 17,000 votes in Amethi behind Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, is leading by 23,635 votes in Varanasi, from where he is seeking a third term. In the 2019 elections, the NDA won 62 seats in the state, paving the way for its second term at the Centre.
