The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections will take place on Monday, covering 49 constituencies across eight states and Union Territories. Polling will start at 7 a.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. at 94,732 polling stations, staffed by 9.47 lakh officials under tight security. This phase includes constituencies from Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Over 8.95 crore voters will decide the fate of 695 candidates. Prominent candidates include BJP’s Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, and Piyush Goyal, and Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and KL Sharma. Other notable candidates are Omar Abdullah and Chirag Paswan.
In addition to the Lok Sabha elections, polling for 35 Assembly constituencies in Odisha will also occur. The Election Commission of India has urged voters to participate in large numbers and exercise their right to vote.
