Delhi High Court Rejects Kejriwal Petition Against Delhi Govt

Wednesday, April 16, 2025

The Delhi High Court dealt a significant blow to Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as it dismissed his petition challenging his detention by the Enforcement Directorate in relation to the Excise Policy money laundering case. In response to his plea, the court stated that evidence gathered by the ED indicates Kejriwal’s involvement in formulating the excise policy and utilizing illicit proceeds. Allegations suggest his complicity both on a personal level, soliciting kickbacks, and in his capacity as the AAP’s national convenor.

Additionally, the court emphasized that questioning the manner in which the approver’s statement was recorded would undermine the integrity of the judicial process. It highlighted the long-standing existence of laws regarding approvers, dismissing claims that they were crafted to target Kejriwal specifically.

Furthermore, the court underscored that political motives should not influence legal proceedings, clarifying that the case does not entail a conflict between the central government and Kejriwal, but rather a legal dispute between Kejriwal and the ED.
