YS Sharmila, chief of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), lambasted Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy for what she alleges as theatricality surrounding the issue of Special Status for Andhra Pradesh. Sharmila accused Jagan of staging mass resignations as a mere performance, noting that the YSR Congress Party’s 23 Members of Parliament never raised the Special Status matter in Parliament. She pledged that if Congress assumes power, it will grant Special Status to Andhra Pradesh for a decade. Sharmila also criticized the Jagan administration for hiking electricity tariffs sevenfold during its tenure. Speaking at a Congress leaders’ meeting in Vijayawada, she accused Jagan of neglecting the state’s interests. Sharmila is set to visit Delhi tomorrow to confer with senior Congress leaders on candidate selection for the upcoming elections, with the potential release of the candidate list thereafter, following a review of the 1,500 applications received.
