It’s Congress vs BJP in Telangana as BRS loses ground

Friday, November 22, 2024

While the BRS party led by K. Chandra Sekhar Rao is losing ground on its home turf, national parties Congress and the BJP are going to have an intense face-off in the upcoming Loksabha elections in Telangana. After the humiliating defeat in the assembly elections last December, the BRS party is struggling due to the mass exodus of its leaders. A bunch of MLAs and MPs quit the party in the last three months and defected into the national parties.

Several pre-poll surveys have already predicted that it will be a one-horse race with the Congress party led by Revanth Reddy set to dominate the polls in the majority of the 17 segments. Meanwhile, the BJP is trying its best to wrest control in some of its stronghold constituencies. It is aiming to secure 7-8 seats, but the Congress party is likely to walk away with more than 10 seats and extend its dominance after its recent electoral victory in the assembly elections against the BRS. The MIM party is sure of retaining the single seat where it maintains huge clout.

Unfortunately, the BRS, which ruled the state for two consecutive terms, seems to be no way in the picture as the fight is solely between the two national parties. The poll preparation of the BRS is largely effected by the series of deflections and lack of a proper agenda to fight against the ruling dispensation. The fact that KCR is unable to find candidates highlights the pathetic situation of the party which is struggling to survive. Going by the current trend, it would be a miracle if the BRS opens its account in the Parliament elections.
