At a rally in Thane, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi declared electoral bonds as the linchpin of the world’s largest extortion network. Following Supreme Court orders, data concerning the now-defunct scheme was disclosed, shedding light on corporate donations worth billions funnelled into political coffers. The Congress party is pressing for a thorough investigation into the BJP’s finances, alleging that nearly half of the electoral bond funds went into their accounts.
Furthermore, they assert a suspicious correlation between these funds and governmental actions against entities linked to the BJP. According to recent data from the Election Commission, the BJP cashed in a staggering Rs 6,060 crore over five years through electoral bonds, while the Congress received Rs 1,422 crore since April 2019.
