New Delhi: State Congress leader YS Sharmila staged a protest at AP Bhavan in New Delhi today, demanding the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the media, she highlighted past statements from both former Chief Minister Chandrababu and current Chief Minister Jagan regarding the special category status. Chandrababu advocated for a 10-year status, while Jagan pledged to secure it if he won all 25 MPs. Sharmila then questioned whether the leaders, regardless of their tenure, had betrayed the people by failing to fulfill the promise of special status.
She criticized the BJP’s influence in Andhra Pradesh, emphasizing that despite the state’s mistreatment, 25 MPs support the BJP, turning Andhra into a Modi-led “slave.” Sharmila challenged the leaders on the need for essential projects like Polavaram and a capital, questioning their loyalty in the absence of these developments. Pointing to the potential benefits of special status, Sharmila cited examples of industrial growth in other states. She urged MPs to explain their support for the BJP and questioned the agreements and compromises made, emphasizing the importance of keeping promises to the people.
