YS Sharmila Criticizes YS Jagan’s Govt Neglect of Gundlakamma Project

Ongole: APCC President YS Sharmila, alongside senior party leaders such as Raghuveera Reddy, Pallam Raju, Gidugu Rudraraju, and others, visited the Gundlakamma project in Prakasam district. During a media interaction on the occasion, Sharmila strongly criticized the YSRCP government. She highlighted the construction cost of Rs. 750 crore for the YSR Gundlakamma project and expressed discontent over the government’s failure to allocate even Rs. 1 crore annually for its maintenance.

Sharmila emphasized that the Gundlakamma project, designed to irrigate one lakh acres and provide drinking water to 12 mandals, faced challenges due to neglect. Two gates had been washed away, one 16 months ago and another three months ago, a consequence, she argued, of inadequate maintenance. Sharmila asserted that proper upkeep over the past five years would have prevented the gates from being washed away.

Referencing the jalayagna initiative by YSR, Sharmila questioned Chief Minister YS Jagan’s commitment to upholding YSR’s legacy, particularly in maintaining the Gundlakamma project. She criticized the Chief Minister, stating that neglect had led to the wasteful discharge of two TMC of water into the sea and expressed concern for farmers and residents facing water shortages.
