Annapoorani which streamed on Netflix caught the attention of many Hindus for its content. The story revolves around a young woman who aspires to become a chef, surpasses her own family rules and traditions, and enters a cooking competition with the help of her Muslim friend. According to the agitators, the movie depicted the culture of Hindus, especially Brahmins poorly such that the protagonist despite hailing from a Brahmin family wears a Hijab, cooks meat, and even says that Lord Rama is a Kshatriya eats meat, etc was derogatory and hurt their sentiments. A man named Ramesh Solanki filed a case against Nayanatara, the writer cum director Nilesh Krishna in the court accusing the movie team is promoting ‘Love Jihad’.
Makers of Annapoorani responded to the case and assured the agitators that they would remove the movie immediately from Netflix until they censored and edited the scenes that hurt their sentiments.
