New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee suggested Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi as the candidate from the Varanasi seat against PM Modi in the upcoming 2024 general elections, according to sources from the TMC who briefed India Today. This proposal was put forth during the fourth meeting of the alliance, the sources further disclosed.
Notably, in 2019, there were speculations about Priyanka Gandhi contesting from the Varanasi seat against PM Modi, but those rumors were quashed when the Grand Old Party fielded Ajay Rai for the significant constituency. Meanwhile, BJP leaders have expressed confidence in their party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections.
