Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Congress party invited Sonia Gandhi to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from the state during a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) in Hyderabad on December 18. The PAC passed a resolution, urging Sonia Gandhi to run for the Lok Sabha and recalling the historical significance of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi being elected from Medak in 1980.
The meeting, chaired by Manikrao Thakare, expressed gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for her role in the formation of Telangana. The PAC also thanked the people of Telangana for electing the Congress to power and acknowledged the party’s victory in the 119-member Assembly, where it secured 64 seats, defeating the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
