Today, N Chandrababu Naidu, the leader of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, was apprehended on charges of corruption. He was subsequently transferred to Vijayawada.
In the early hours of the morning, Mr. Naidu was taken into custody by officers from the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Investigation Department. The arrest unfolded amid high drama after midnight.
The previous night, law enforcement officials arrived at a function hall in Nandyal to deliver an arrest warrant to Mr. Naidu. Nevertheless, they encountered resistance from the TDP leader’s supporters, preventing them from taking him into custody.
In the notice presented to Mr. Naidu, Senior Officer of the CID’s Economic Offences Wing, M. Dhanunjayudu, conveyed, “We wish to inform you that you have been arrested… at 6 am at R K Function Hall, Gnanapuram, residing at Moolasagaram, Nandyala town, and this is classified as a non-bailable offense.”
