The daughter of KCR, Kalvakuntla Kavita has responded to the ongoing criticism regarding BRS for giving the fewest seats to the women. In the released list of MLA candidates, only 7 were women, and here is what Kavitha had to answer for the ongoing controversy in her party.
Kavitha who was a woman herself supported her father’s decision of giving 7 seats for women by declaring that BRS is the only party that gave 50% reservations for women in local body elections. She challenged any party in India that is giving such reservations for women in local body elections rather than crying foul on her party. The MLC of BRS went further and asked why the Congress Party or the BJP didn’t support the Women Reservation Bill in Parliament when she fought for it. Finally, Kavitha declared that one has to see the commitment of the BRS before alleging anything.
Political experts laugh at the defense of Kavitha as to how she can justify giving the least seats to women not just now but in the elections. In 2014, TRS gave not even one seat to women MLA candidates, and in 2019, it managed to give just 16 seats whereas the opposition parties like Congress, TDP, and BJP gave 36, 35, and 32 seats respectively. So, Kavitha criticizing the opposition parties when fingers were pointing at her own party was indeed laughable.
