Farmers protested against CM’s action in Amaravati

Friday, November 22, 2024

The farmers of Amaravati who have given their lands away for the construction of AP’s capital have been fighting against the AP Government since the CM started singing the song of three capitals. Now they have a fresh struggle to fight since the Chief Minister has got other plans with the Amaravati lands.

It is a known fact that the AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy is against constructing Amaravati as the sole capital and he wanted to make Vizag as the main capital. However, even his own government has no clarity on whether they have three capitals or one, i.e., Vizag. Keeping this issue aside, the CM laid the foundation stone for the construction of houses for the weaker sections of the society in Amaravati instead of constructing the capital and developing it. Amaravati farmers have protested against this act by waving black flags against the CM’s act and demanded he to go back on his decision. Since the Government won the Supreme Court’s judgment in favor of AP Sarkar, Jagan went ahead with his plans leaving the farmers in distress. Farmers claim that the construction of 50,000 houses and distributing the ownership of lands to the beneficiaries, especially in the proposed capital region is against the CRDA rules.

As of now, Farmers are on the losing side as the Apex Court stood with the AP Government in this case but the political experts opine that the rules always favor the ruling party which is in power. One has to wait and see if farmers again approach the Supreme Court against Jagan or not.
